Still in the Dark is started upon your first visit to the Hidden Valley Bunker and Paladin Ramos confronts you. To keep things simple, recruit Veronica before heading to Hidden Valley. Veronica is at the 188 Trading Post on the road north-west out of Boulder City. Without Veronica, you’ll have your gear confiscated and be fitted with an explosive collar. To remove the collar you’ll be forced to get rid of an NCR Ranger in another Hidden Valley bunker. The ranger can be killed, have his radio smashed or booby trapped, or be convinced to leave with +50 speech. After the collar deal, the quest plays out the same for everyone. Elder McNamara will ask you to retrieve the holotapes of three Brotherhood patrols. The closest patrol is north-east of Hidden Valley and south of Black Mountain. It is easy to reach if you’ve discovered Scorpion Gulch during the Missing Laser Pistol unmarked quest. Just wipe out a few centaurs and retrieve the tape from a corpse in a radioactive crater. The next nearest tape is at REPCONN Headquarters. The issue is that the facility is rigged with security robots. You can do things the hard way and battle to the third floor to find the patrol was taken out by a collapsing ceiling.
